Shirley Carew lives under the South Downs, in West Sussex.

She likes to work from life, and her preferred medium is charcoal because of its wonderful versatility, depth, subtlety, and freedom. For painting she prefers to use oils.

 

Shirley admires the work of most of the Greats, however her work is mainly influenced by her own unconscious processes, and her animals.

 

She is on the waiting list for a retired greyhound and is looking forward to playing with the elegant lines of that most beautiful of dogs. They make fine models, ever happy to lie around with their clothes off.
